Bude couple gifted cake replica of their new home

Geoff and Sally Cox thought they had settled into their new Bude home. Then someone handed them a cake shaped exactly like it, right down to the charging point on the drive.

A house you could eat

The retired couple recently moved into a four-bedroom detached home at Upton Green on the edge of Bude, having relocated from Devon. To mark the occasion, Cornish housebuilder Legacy Properties surprised them with an edible replica of the property, crafted to match the real thing in remarkable detail.

The cake was made by Niki Lowe Cake Design, a specialist based in Liskeard. Niki rebuilt the couple’s home in sugar and sponge, capturing the windows, the distinctive slate tiles and even the electric vehicle charging unit outside.

“We couldn’t believe it when we saw it,” said Geoff and Sally. “It looked just like our house. The level of detail was incredible. It’s such a thoughtful and personal way to celebrate. We already feel lucky to have found our dream home in Cornwall, but this really is the icing on the cake!”

Why this couple

The surprise was not random. Geoff and Sally were Legacy’s 250th customer, a figure the company has now passed since starting out in 2010. That means more than 250 homes delivered across 12 developments around Cornwall.

Mark Docherty, Head of Sales at Legacy Properties, said the milestone was really about the people buying the houses.

“Reaching 250 homes is a proud moment for us as a business, but it’s really about the people behind each of those homes,” Mark said. “Geoff and Sally were the perfect couple to celebrate this milestone with. We wanted to do something memorable and personal for them, and the cake felt like a fun and fitting way to mark the occasion.”

The Upton Green development

Upton Green is a collection of 25 homes on the edge of Bude, built for modern, energy-efficient living within walking distance of the town centre and the coastline.

Legacy Properties is based in Newquay and builds small collections of high-specification homes across the county. The multi-award-winning company currently has five live developments, in Par, Pentewan Valley, Bude, Trispen and Goonhavern.

Geoff and Sally, meanwhile, are left with one obvious problem. At some point, someone has to cut into the house.
