The fireworks at Land’s End are about to get some company.

A new drone show launches at the landmark this month as part of its Magic in the Skies summer event. It is the biggest change the event has seen in its history, and the countdown to the first performance is now down to a matter of weeks.

An exclusive preview before the crowds arrive

Last night, invited media, industry partners and special guests were given a first look at what’s coming. The preview offered an early glimpse of the drone technology and aerial displays that will soon appear above Cornwall’s most recognisable coastline.

A teaser trailer released today gives the wider public their first taste, capturing the scale of the production as preparations reach their final stages.

Drones and fireworks, together

The new show combines synchronised drones with Land’s End’s fireworks, promising an evening of light, colour and storytelling that the landmark says will be unlike anything seen there before.

Magic in the Skies runs throughout the summer holidays and draws thousands of visitors each year. The addition of the drone display is described as the biggest evolution of the event since it began, set against the coastal backdrop that makes Land’s End one of Britain’s best-known destinations.

David Hocking, Head of Marketing at Land’s End, said the reaction since the show was announced has been strong.

“The response since announcing the drone show has been incredible, and we’re thrilled that we’re now just weeks away from welcoming our first audiences,” David said. “Seeing the excitement at our preview event confirmed just how special these evenings are going to be. We’ve always looked to make Magic in the Skies bigger and better each year, and this is undoubtedly our most ambitious summer yet.”

When the shows run

The first drone show takes place on 23 July, then features as part of the Magic in the Skies evenings every Tuesday and Thursday throughout the summer holidays. Each night combines live entertainment, food and drink, sunsets and a night-time spectacular at the very tip of Cornwall.

A full calendar of dates is on the Land’s End website.
