Penzance patrol spots man wanted in Scotland since September

A routine foot patrol through Penzance turned into an arrest this week when a PCSO recognised a man who had been wanted by Police Scotland for the best part of a year.

The warrant that came south

PCSO Tonkin was on foot in the town on Wednesday when he identified a male who had been wanted on warrant by Police Scotland since September last year. He alerted colleagues from the Neighbourhood Support Team, who were also out on foot nearby. They arrested the man and took him to custody, where he faced a long wait for Scottish officers to travel down and collect him.

That was only the start of the day.

A serious assault and a burglary suspect

Later on, plain clothes officers who were in the town targeting drug dealing stepped in to help patrol colleagues arrest a man wanted for a serious assault committed overnight in the Penzance area.

In the afternoon, PCs Smith and Freeman were alerted to another man suspected of a dwelling burglary. They found him on Market Jew Street and arrested him.

Three arrests in a single day, across three separate matters.

The rest of the shift

Between the arrests, the neighbourhood team still fitted in school visits, patrols of the town and outlying villages, and safeguarding meetings. They also backed up patrol colleagues responding to 999 calls.

And, as the team themselves put it, it was a bit warm in the body armour.
