Man in his 70s dies in River Fowey incident

A man in his 70s has died following an incident in the River Fowey on Thursday afternoon.

Police believe it was a tragic accident

At around 4.35pm on Thursday (9 July), St Austell Police were called by Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service after a report of a person in the River Fowey. Emergency services recovered a man, aged in his 70s, from the water and attempted life saving measures. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Police say they believe the incident was a tragic accident. The man’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist teams.
