St Day pub raises £2,500 for Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity

A weekend of beer and live music at a village pub near St Day has turned into a £2,500 cheque for one of the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity’s funds.

What happened

The Star Inn Vogue, St Day, has donated £2,500 to the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity’s Butterfly Fund following its recent Charity Ale and Music Festival.

The charity said it was delighted to share the news, and thanked everyone who organised the event, took part in it and supported it. Their kindness and community spirit, it said, will help make a real difference to patients and their families.

What the Butterfly fund actually does

The money is going to the charity’s Butterfly Cornwall fund, which is about the end of life rather than anything to do with wildlife.

The project aims to improve the way patients and their loved ones spend their last days together. Donations let the Palliative Care and End of Life team buy additional equipment, improve and enhance the rooms used for patients at the end of life, and provide home comforts.

It also funds what the team call a Rainbow Day, where a patient’s special wish is met.

As the charity puts it on the fund’s page, many people will sadly be in hospital at the end of their life, and the initiative exists to improve the quality of that time.
