MP Noah Law brings anti-social behaviour talks to St Dennis and Par

A church hall, a few rows of chairs, a police officer, and whoever from the town cares enough to turn up. That is roughly the shape of the next month in mid Cornwall, as the constituency’s MP opens up a run of public meetings on a subject plenty of residents have opinions about but few get asked directly.

What the Community Conversations are

Noah Law, MP for St Austell and Newquay, has launched a series of community events aimed at tackling anti-social behaviour across the constituency.

The events, called Community Conversations, will bring together local residents, police, and other community organisations and stakeholders. The idea is to create spaces for informal, safe and respectful discussion about how to improve cohesion in the community, and they form part of Noah’s work to support towns and villages in mid Cornwall.

The series sits under one of his three key campaign pledges from the 2024 General Election, on revitalising towns.

Why anti-social behaviour

Noah Law has said a significant part of that effort must go towards the issues tied to anti-social behaviour, which has become common in towns and even villages across the constituency.

Hot-spot areas prone to anti-social behaviour and inappropriate activity are posing a real threat to people’s livelihoods, the public realm and the strength of the community, as well as deterring tourists and customers.

“I pledged to revitalise our high streets and towns, but they cannot thrive until we clamp down on the anti-social behaviour that is driving away people, upsetting residents, and hurting our small businesses and community,” he said.

“These Community Conversations will give us, the community, an opportunity to have an honest, open, and constructive conversation about the steps that need to be taken to tackle these sort of activities.”

Where and when

The events run throughout July, currently scheduled in St Dennis, St Austell, Sticker, Par and Bugle.

The first is in St Dennis on Thursday 16 July at 6:30pm. Places can be booked by signing up for the St Dennis Community Conversation on Eventbrite.
