Newquay’s School’s Out Disco returns to the Killacourt this July

The school gates are about to close, and Newquay is opening the summer with a free afternoon of party music, fancy dress and prizes on the seafront.

The Newquay Sessions School’s Out Disco returns on Saturday 25th July, running from 1pm to 3pm at the bandstand on the Killacourt. It is free, aimed at families, and forms part of the wider Newquay Sessions series of free events running on the Killacourt through the summer.

A seaside theme with DJ Beaker

The disco will be hosted by DJ Beaker, with a set of party favourites to keep children dancing through the afternoon. This year’s event takes its cue from the coast, with a seaside theme running through both the music and the fancy dress. It also doubles as a warm-up for the UK Surf & Skate Expo, which comes to Newquay across the weekend of 25th and 26th July.

Fancy dress competition and prizes

The seaside theme carries into a free fancy dress competition, sponsored by the UK Surf & Skate Expo, with prizes donated by 10 Over Surf Shop. There is no entry fee and no ticket needed, and children are encouraged to come dressed in their brightest and most creative summer outfits.

Prizes will be handed out across five categories:

• Brightest Outfit
• Coolest Surfer Style
• Ultimate Beach Fit
• Most Creative Outfit
• Best Summer Accessory

Getting there and what to bring

There is no parking on site, but several town centre car parks are a short walk away. The Killacourt is around a 6-minute walk from Newquay Bus Station and roughly 10 minutes on foot from Newquay Station.

Shade is limited on the Killacourt, so in warm weather it is worth bringing suncream, a hat and plenty of water. A free water refill station is available on site. There are public toilets on Trebarwith Crescent (TR7 1DN) along with a Changing Places facility, and the site has step-free access with a resin pathway suitable for wheelchairs, mobility scooters and pushchairs.

What you need to know

Entry is free and all children must be accompanied by an adult.

As with any outdoor event, the afternoon is weather dependent and could be cancelled in adverse conditions, including high winds.
