A38 night works at Stoketon Cross to run into late August

Drivers who use the A38 through Saltash have a run of late nights to plan around. From the end of July and through much of August, the Stoketon Cross junction with Trematon Lane will be given over to overnight works, with traffic held or shifted while crews dig into the carriageway and lay new services beneath it.

The programme was shared by Saltash Town Council after Montel Civil Engineering issued its July update on the scheme. The work sits within the wider Bloor Homes Treledan development, and the junction sits on the main A38 corridor between Plymouth and Liskeard.

When the restrictions apply

The first phase covers the nights of 30 and 31 July 2026, running from 8pm to 5am. Surfacing works will take place under four-way temporary traffic lights, so drivers passing through in either direction should expect to wait at the junction.

A longer phase then follows from 3 to 21 August 2026, weeknights only, again between 8pm and 5am. Overnight traffic management will be in place across those nights to allow the essential works to go ahead.

What is being done

Three jobs sit behind the closures and controls. New Vodafone ducting is being installed across the junction, new drainage is going in (which means excavating the existing carriageway), and surfacing works are being carried out on the A38 itself. The overnight scheduling is designed to keep disruption off the road during the busier daytime hours.

The junction has already seen earlier rounds of night works this year as part of the same development, which is reshaping this stretch of the A38 with new road layout and services.
