Cornwall weather: Friday 7 August, 28°C heat by Saturday

If you have been waiting for a proper burst of summer, the next few days are the ones to clear your diary for. High pressure is settling in over the South West, the rain is being shown the door, and by Saturday the mercury could be nudging 28°C. Here is how the weekend takes shape across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

Today

A mostly dry morning gets things going with some bright spells. Cloud bubbles up as the morning wears on, then lifts and breaks apart into the afternoon, leaving it dry with sunny spells. It stays pleasantly warm for everyone in a light westerly breeze, with a high of around 23°C.

Tonight

A fine evening follows, then a clear and dry night for all. It turns rather cool, even a touch chilly in the more rural and inland spots, with the temperature dipping to about 5°C.

Saturday

This is the day to make plans for. A dry and bright morning gets things moving, though high cloud drifting over at times will turn the sunshine hazy. With the winds staying light, it will feel hot to very hot wherever the sun breaks through, and the top temperature could reach 28°C.

The outlook: Sunday to Tuesday

High pressure stays in charge into the new week, so it keeps things mostly dry throughout. Temperatures may slip back a little on Monday before starting to climb again on Tuesday. So if Monday feels a shade cooler than the rest, do not pack the sun cream away just yet. Tuesday looks set to warm things straight back up.
