Gorran Haven: Coastguard brings injured boater ashore by dinghy

A summer afternoon on the water turned into a rescue on Saturday, after someone aboard a boat at sea was hurt badly enough to need help getting back to dry land.

The Mevagissey Coastguard team were called out on Saturday afternoon to assist with a casualty extraction from a boat. A person aboard had suffered an injury that needed medical attention while out at sea, and Falmouth Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) had already requested an ambulance and a Community First Responder to attend.

The boat was brought into Gorran Haven and the casualty was transferred ashore by dinghy.

Checked over ashore

Once on dry land, the casualty was given a quick check over by the Community First Responder. They were not in need of urgent attention, so the ambulance request was cancelled. On advice, they were taken to a local NHS treatment centre by car, driven by a family friend.

The team used the callout to pass on a piece of advice. The person did the right thing by calling 999 and asking for the Coastguard, who can coordinate the right assets and make sure you receive the correct response.
