A last-minute pilot for Falmouth Week’s air display

If you are heading down to the water for Falmouth Week‘s air display this evening, the running order looks a little different to the one first announced. One team has had to pull out at short notice, and the pilot taking their place has a flying CV worth turning up early for.

Why the line-up has changed

The Flying Comrades were due to perform over the bay, but they have had to withdraw. One of their aircraft suffered an engine failure on its way back from Blackpool, and it will not be fixed in time. Falmouth Week has said it hopes to see the team back over Falmouth Bay another year.

The pilot stepping in

Filling the slot at the last minute is Mark Linney, who will fly a solo aerobatic display in his Van’s RV-8. Mark has flown just about everything. His logbook runs from RAF fast jets to Airbus A350 airliners, by way of airshow legends like the Hawker Hunter. He will put all of that experience to use carving loops and rolls through the sky above the bay, smoke trail and all.

The rest of tonight’s line-up

Mark is not the only act on the card. The Royal Navy Raiders and the AeroSuperBatics Wingwalkers complete the line-up, with the flying due to begin at 6.15pm. There is something extra overhead too. A solar eclipse is set to unfold above the bay at the same time, which means anyone looking up over Falmouth tonight could catch two shows at once.
