Free weekend parking in Truro, if you know where to look

If you have ever circled the city on a Saturday hunting for a space, there is now a spot that costs nothing to leave the car all weekend. Cornwall Council has made its car park at the front of County Hall free every Saturday and Sunday, and plenty of people still have not clocked that it is there.

Free every Saturday and Sunday

The car park at County Hall, or Lys Kernow, is free to use on Saturdays and Sundays. It has been running since 11 July and it is open to residents and visitors alike. There are 60 spaces in the council car park at the front of the building. Full details are on Cornwall Council’s free weekend parking page.

Getting into the city centre

The idea is to leave the car at County Hall and finish the trip on foot or by bus. From the site you can get down into Truro city centre by bus from the stop outside Food Warehouse, or on foot down Chapel Hill or Station Road. On Saturdays the Park and Ride serves that same stop, alongside the other buses. Tickets, the Park and Ride included, can be bought from the driver or through the Transport for Cornwall app.

Bikes and charging on site

There is more at County Hall than parking bays. You can hire a Beryl bike from the racks there if you would rather ride the last stretch into town. There is a charging point for electric vehicles on site too.

Truro BID has asked the city’s businesses to let their customers know about the free spaces, so word gets around before shoppers pay to park elsewhere. Whether the 60 spaces start filling up now that the weekends are free is the part that will sort itself out over the coming Saturdays.
