Newquay’s Minor Injury Unit closed today, hospital stays open

If you’re heading to Newquay Hospital today expecting a quick fix for a cut, sprain or minor break, check first. The unit that normally deals with those injuries has shut its doors, and it comes down to staffing.

What’s closed, and what isn’t

The Minor Injury Unit at Newquay Hospital is closed today, Monday 17 August, Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust has confirmed. The main hospital building remains open as normal, so anyone with an appointment elsewhere on site, such as physiotherapy, speech therapy or outpatients, should not be affected.

Why the unit has shut

The trust says the closure comes down to staffing pressures. In a statement it said: “We understand this is frustrating but this is due to staffing pressures. We are sorry for the inconvenience.”

Where to go instead

Other minor injury units across Cornwall remain open, and the trust is urging people to check live opening times and waits before setting off, because the nearest unit to you might not be the quickest option today. No word yet on when Newquay’s unit will reopen.
