Man arrested after unexplained death in Truro car park

A cordon has closed off part of a Truro car park since Monday morning, after a man was found dead inside its ground floor level and detectives began treating his death as unexplained.

What happened at Moorfield Car Park

Devon and Cornwall Police were called by the ambulance service to Moorfield Car Park in Calenick Street at around 10.45am on Monday 17 August. A 41-year-old man, from the Truro area, was found deceased inside the ground floor of the car park.

His next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers. The death is currently being treated as unexplained, and significant enquiries remain ongoing to establish the circumstances.

Man, 44, arrested on suspicion of assault and theft

On Tuesday 18 August, a 44-year-old man from Truro was arrested on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm, administering a noxious substance and theft. He remains in police custody.

A cordon remains in place around the closed ground floor of the car park while forensic examinations and searches are carried out. Officers are also reviewing CCTV footage to establish the man’s movements before his death.

Police appeal for witnesses between Friday and Monday

Detective Inspector Jon Bray said: “Our enquiries are at an early stage as we work to establish the circumstances surrounding this man’s death. One arrest has been made in connection with our investigation and the man remains in custody.”

“We are appealing to anyone who may have information or witnessed anything suspicious in the area between the afternoon of Friday 14 August and 10.45am on Monday 17 August.”

“There will be an ongoing police presence in the area while enquiries continue and anyone with concerns is encouraged to speak with officers at the scene.”

Car park access while the investigation continues

Jon added: “The inside ground floor car parking area will remain closed today while detectives and specialist teams carry out their investigations. The outside parking area remains unaffected.”

“We would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding around the ongoing police presence. Anyone requiring access to a vehicle within the cordoned area should speak to officers at the scene who will assist them.”
