Cornwall weather: Wednesday 19 August, heavy, thundery showers
Keep the waterproof within reach today, and maybe listen out for a rumble or two. Cornwall is in for a couple of showery, unsettled days, with some of the showers turning heavy and even thundery, before things calm down and brighten up as the weekend draws closer. Here is how the week’s weather looks, based on the latest Met Office regional forecast for South West England, which covers Cornwall.

Today, Wednesday 19 August
Isolated, possibly heavy showers are expected through the day, chiefly towards the north and west. Even so, many places will stay dry with bright or sunny spells in between. Temperatures sit around average for the time of year, reaching a maximum of about 22°C.
Tonight
Further showers move in from the west overnight, some of them heavy at times. They stay more isolated in the east, where there will be clearer spells. It turns into a cooler night for many, dropping to a minimum of around 9°C.
Thursday
Another showery day to come. The showers turn thundery at times as they track their way eastwards, and there is a chance of some hail with them too. It is slightly cooler than Wednesday overall, though it will still feel warm in any sunny spells, with a high near 21°C.

The outlook: Friday to the weekend
Temperatures stay below average as the week runs on. Scattered showers keep going on Friday, but the picture slowly turns more settled from there, with an increasing number of sunny spells arriving as Saturday and Sunday come into view.
So it is a fresher, more changeable few days ahead, with the thunder and hail the part to keep an eye on, before Cornwall eases back towards something calmer by the weekend.
