Cornwall weather: Saturday 22 August, sunshine before it turns

You picked a good weekend to be in Cornwall. Saturday leans towards bright and dry, Sunday keeps the late-August sunshine going, and it is only when you look to the middle of next week that the mood changes. Here is how the week’s weather is shaping up.

Today

Saturday is a dry and bright day for most, with good spells of sunshine and temperatures near average, reaching 21°C. The one caveat is an odd isolated shower, most likely across parts of Cornwall and Devon in the west, so if you are out along the coast do not be surprised by a passing spot of rain. For the most part, though, it stays dry and the sun does the work.

Tonight

The day ends brightly with sunny spells into the evening, and it stays dry overnight as clear spells develop. Those clear skies let the temperature fall away, so it turns rather chilly, particularly in rural spots, down to around 8°C. Worth a jumper if you are out late.

Sunday

Sunday is dry and settled for most, with plenty of late August sunshine to enjoy. Light winds make it feel warm whenever the sun is out, and the high again reaches 21°C. If you have one day this weekend to get to the beach or walk a stretch of the coast path, this is a strong contender.

The outlook: Monday to Wednesday

Monday carries the fine weather on, dry with sunny spells and feeling warmer still. The change arrives after dark. Showers, and perhaps a few thunderstorms, develop overnight and push into Tuesday. Wednesday then stays unsettled with further showers likely. So make the most of the bright start to the week, because the second half looks a good deal livelier.
