Guildford Road in Hayle set for overnight closures

Heading towards the A30 out of Hayle after dark in October? You might want to check your route first. A stretch of Guildford Road is about to shut overnight for two nights running, and a second road nearby is affected at the same time.

What’s closing, and when

Hayle Town Council has shared a Cornwall Council notice covering Guildford Road, the route that carries traffic between the town and the A30 past Viaduct Hill. The closure is due to run from 10pm on Tuesday 13 October 2026 through to 6am on Wednesday 14 October, under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, Section 14, which allows a road to be temporarily closed for works on the highway.

The council’s map marks it as a full road closure, and the same overnight window, 22:00 to 06:00, applies to Wheal Alfred Road as well. A diversion route is shown running through the town for both nights.

Why the road is closing

The works are listed against Network Rail Infrastructure Ltd, and Guildford Road runs close to the railway line and Hayle’s viaduct on its way out to the A30, which is the usual reason for an overnight closure of this kind rather than daytime traffic management. Cornwall Council’s notice does not go into further detail on the exact nature of the works themselves.

Only an intention notice, for now

Cornwall Council is clear that this is an intention notice at this stage, not yet a confirmed Order, and is asking for feedback within fourteen days of the notice being issued. Anyone with a query about the works is asked to contact the contractor, Safer Roadworks, direct on 07572710214, with wider concerns about the closure itself going to Cornwall Council’s Streetworks team on 0300 1234 222 or [email protected]. Responses sent to that inbox are then passed on to Network Rail to answer.

Two nights, not two weeks

With the closure running overnight only, and for two nights rather than an extended spell, most of Hayle’s daytime traffic should be unaffected. It’s drivers using Guildford Road late at night, heading for the A30 or coming off it into town, who will need to find another way round on the 13th and 14th. Whether the dates or details change once the feedback period has run its course is something Cornwall Council hasn’t said yet.
