Two rescues in one day at Helford Passage and Kynance Cove

Two very different call-outs, on two very different stretches of coast, landed within hours of each other. One began with people in the water at a quiet tidal creek. The other ended with a helicopter hovering over a clifftop and a group who had watched the sea creep in around them at one of the Lizard’s best-known coves. Both times, the outcome was the one everyone was hoping for.

First call: people in the water at Helford Passage

Volunteers from the Porthoustock Coastguard Rescue Team were paged first to Helford Passage, where reports had come in of people in the water. Crews worked to assist those in difficulty, and everyone involved was recovered safe and well.

From Helford straight on to Kynance Cove

With the first job barely done, the team moved straight on to a second. This time a group had been cut off by the incoming tide at Kynance Cove, on the Lizard peninsula, a spot known for the speed at which the water can close in around its rocks and sand. Again, everyone was recovered safe and well.

Crews from across the west, and a helicopter overhead

Porthoustock’s volunteers were not working alone on either job. Colleagues from the Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team and the Mullion Coastguard Rescue Team also turned out, alongside the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter SAR 924, which supported both incidents from the air.

The team’s own message afterwards was a simple one: enjoy the rest of the weekend, and stay safe near the coast.
