The call comes in

At 3.26pm on Saturday 29 August, Looe RNLI Lifeboat Station‘s duty launch authority took a tasking request from Falmouth Coastguard MRCC. A paddleboarder was reported to be struggling off Millendreath beach, making no headway against the water.

Eight minutes after the pagers sounded, the volunteer shore crew had the charity’s relief Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat, Spirit of Cooperation, away from the boathouse and heading for the beach.

On scene and home safe

The crew reached the paddleboarder quickly and brought him aboard the lifeboat before returning him to Millendreath, where family were waiting on the beach.

Looe’s post on the callout was tagged #outonashout, the volunteer crew’s shorthand for another shout answered on a Saturday afternoon in peak paddleboarding season.
