Speed check outside Trispen school catches four drivers

If you drove past St Erme and Trispen primary school on Friday morning, you may have noticed a police van parked up by the road. Four drivers will be hearing more about it soon.

An hour at the school gates

The Devon & Cornwall Police Road Safety Team was at the school between 8am and 9am on Friday (25 September), checking the speed of traffic in the 20mph limit approaching the school.

Four drivers were recorded going too fast. According to the team, they “will be considering their choices when notices of intended prosecution land on their door mats in the next few days”.

Why the 20mph limit matters

With the new school term now well under way, the team said it was time for a reminder to some drivers to slow down near schools.

Its message to anyone driving through Trispen, or anywhere else, was simple. Keep your speed down, particularly around schools.

The team pointed out that children are easily distracted and often have less awareness of what is going on around them than adults do. Keeping speed low increases the chances of avoiding a collision, and reduces injuries if one does happen.
