Penlee Lifeboat pays tribute to former crewman Ian McGill

A framed certificate records that while Ian McGill was on the crew at Penlee, the lifeboat rescued 57 lives from shipwreck.

This week the station he served has been remembering him.

The announcement from Penlee

Years aboard the Mabel Alice

Ian served on the all weather lifeboat Mabel Alice, under Coxswains Kenny Thomas and Neil Brockman.

The station shared two pictures with its tribute. One is a photograph of Ian. The other is his Royal National Lifeboat Institution Certificate of Service, made out in the name of Ian Gordon McGill.

The certificate records him as an all weather lifeboat crew member at Penlee from 1988 to 2004, a span of 16 years. It is dated December 2008 and signed by the charity’s chairman and chief executive.

“During his service at Penlee the Lifeboat rescued 57 lives from shipwreck,” it reads.

“The Council are glad to place on record this testimony to his personal participation in the Lifeboat Service.”
