Cornwall weather: Monday 5 October, fog clears to 20°C sunshine
Wake up to a world you can’t see past the garden fence this morning? You’re not alone. Cornwall starts the week under fog, but stick with it, because the Met Office forecast for the South West, which covers the county, has warm sunshine waiting once the murk lifts. Here is how the weather looks from now through to Friday, with the headline one of foggy mornings, variable cloud and a cooler feel creeping in.

Today, Monday 5 October
Foggy and chilly to start, so give yourself extra time on the roads and keep the lights on until it clears. The fog gradually lifts through the morning and it stays bright, though cloud arrives through the day. That cloud then breaks up for warm afternoon sunny spells, best of all along the southern coasts. The temperature climbs to a maximum of around 20°C, a proper mild October afternoon once the sun comes through.
Tonight
Largely clear through the evening with light winds, which lets the temperature fall quickly for a chilly night. Fog starts to form before midnight and becomes extensive inland by dawn. The minimum drops to around 5°C, so it’s one for an extra layer and a scrape of the windscreen in the morning.
Tuesday 6 October
Another foggy one inland. Dense fog may be slow to clear through the morning in some areas, so expect patchy visibility on the commute. It then becomes more cloudy, with spots of rain arriving in the afternoon. The high reaches around 20°C again before the change sets in.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday
An unsettled start to Wednesday, but the rain gradually clears to leave sunny spells and a fresher, more autumnal feel. Thursday brings long sunny spells, though it feels cooler than of late. Then it turns unsettled again on Friday. The warm afternoons at the start of the week are the last of the softness for a while, with autumn starting to show its hand by the weekend.
