Lowarth Holman: Camborne’s forgotten plot opens as a garden
For years it was the patch of land you drove past on the way to fill up at Tesco. Earmarked for houses that never came, quietly going to seed in the middle of town. Next Saturday it gets a ribbon, a male voice choir and a brand-new name.
Camborne Town Council is holding a free, family-friendly grand opening for Lowarth Holman, a once-unused brownfield site on Kerrier Way, on Saturday 24 October from 11.30am to 2pm.

From housing plot to public garden
The site was originally earmarked for housing development, but it was left dormant for years, a neglected piece of land in the heart of Camborne.
With support from the Camborne Town Deal, it has now been transformed into a public garden. The space will be used for events and for simply sitting and relaxing, and it includes an amphitheatre designed for the community to use throughout the year.
The opening day is a celebration of the new lease of life this part of town has been given.
What happens on the day
Gates open at 11.30am with a short opening set of live music from Bossanova Kernow. That first stretch is the chance to wander round and get a proper look at the new gardens.
Then come the speeches, from Town Clerk Jon James, the High Sheriff of Cornwall and the Mayor of Camborne, Cllr Edward Chapman. A tree planting ceremony will mark the occasion.
The Holman Male Voice Choir will then take to the stage, giving people a moment to enjoy the music and think about the history of the site and what the gardens will bring to the town. Refreshments will be served during the choir’s set, and Bossanova Kernow return for a final performance to close.
Circus skills for anyone brave enough
Anyone who went to a past Green Fest may recognise one name on the bill. Street theatre company Hotch Potch Performance is coming back to run a circus skills workshop alongside the live music, and everyone is invited to have a go. There will also be stalls.

How to get there
Lowarth Holman is on Kerrier Way, Camborne, TR14 8RY, next to the Tesco petrol station. Everyone is welcome and there is no need to book. The town council is encouraging people to bring friends and family along and see the space for themselves.
The Mayor, Cllr Edward Chapman, said: “It’s wonderful to see this space being brought back to life and opened up for everyone to enjoy. I hope local residents will feel proud of the gardens and make the most of them for many years to come.”
