Driving across Cornwall this week? It is worth knowing which parts of the county the speed checks are heading for, and on which days. Every corner of Cornwall gets a visit before Friday is out.

The Devon & Cornwall Police Road Safety Team has published where its speed detection officers will mainly be focusing their activity from today, Monday 19 October, to Sunday 25 October.

Where the speed checks are in Cornwall this week

  • Monday 19 October: East Cornwall
  • Tuesday 20 October: East Cornwall
  • Wednesday 21 October: Mid Cornwall and West Cornwall
  • Thursday 22 October: West Cornwall, Mid Cornwall and East Cornwall
  • Friday 23 October: Mid Cornwall and West Cornwall

East Cornwall is on the list for three days, and Thursday is the only day all three parts of the county are covered at once. The Road Safety Team gives areas rather than individual roads, so the list tells you where officers are concentrating, not which lay-by they will be parked in.

Neither Saturday 24 nor Sunday 25 October lists Cornwall. That does not mean the roads are unwatched at the weekend, only that the team’s focus that week is elsewhere.

Heading over the Tamar?

If your week takes you into Devon, Plymouth appears on every day except Monday. The rest of the schedule runs like this:

  • Monday 19 October: Exeter, North Devon, South Devon
  • Tuesday 20 October: Plymouth, East Devon, West Devon, North Devon, South Devon
  • Wednesday 21 October: Plymouth, Exeter
  • Thursday 22 October: Plymouth, Mid Devon, West Devon
  • Friday 23 October: Plymouth, South Hams, Exeter, South Devon
  • Saturday 24 October: Plymouth, West Devon, North Devon, South Hams, South Devon
  • Sunday 25 October: Plymouth, Dartmoor, North Devon, Teignbridge, South Devon

The team’s message to drivers is the same wherever the list points: drive carefully and stay within the speed limit, whether officers are on your patch that day or not.
