Memorials on Newquay’s Barrowfields fence need collecting soon
Some of them have been there for years. Ribbons, flowers, small plaques and keepsakes, tied to the clifftop fence at Barrowfields by people remembering someone. That fence is about to be replaced, and anyone who has left something on it is being asked to take it home first.
The message comes from Cornwall Council and Cormac, and was shared by Newquay Town Council.

Collect items before the work starts
Work to replace the clifftop fencing at Barrowfields in Newquay is due to start imminently. No exact start date has been given.
If you have attached personal items, memorials or decorations to the fencing, you are asked to collect them as soon as possible. The stretch affected runs along the clifftop edge of Barrowfields, marked as a blue line on the map below.
Any items still on the fence when the work begins will have to be removed. Cornwall Council and Cormac say they would like to reunite everything with its owner, but they can’t guarantee that if items have to be taken down during the works.
New benches where the shelters stood
The fencing is one part of a wider set of improvements at Barrowfields. New benches are being put in to replace the shelters, which have already been demolished.
Narrowcliff railings next
Further along, the guard railings on Narrowcliff overlooking Tolcarne are also lined up for replacement. That job is currently anticipated in 2027.
Cornwall Council and Cormac have thanked people for their patience while the improvements are carried out.
