What 14 birdwatchers spotted at Ruan Lanihorne on the Roseland
Four birds of prey over one quiet corner of the Roseland. Not a bad return for a single field trip.
Fourteen nature and wildlife enthusiasts joined a birdwatching outing at Ruan Lanihorne on the Roseland Peninsula, organised by Connect with Nature. Between them they recorded 52 species of birds and six species of butterflies.

Red kite, buzzard, kestrel and sparrowhawk
The raptors were the standout. The group spotted four different birds of prey on the trip: a red kite, a buzzard, a kestrel and a sparrowhawk.
Those four were only part of the tally. Photos from the outing also caught a little egret, a grey heron and a stonechat.
Who led the trip
The event was organised by Rowena Castillo-Nicholls, founder and chair of Connect with Nature. Rob Nicholls led the field trip.
And the group had the weather on their side, with sunshine and just a soft breeze.
Coffee, biscuits and chocolates to finish
The outing ended with coffee, tea, biscuits and chocolates, and plenty of chat about what everyone had seen.
Those in the group photo are David Hall, Ian Toogood-Johnson, Tim Hansen, John Rogers, Rob Nicholls, Rowena Castillo-Nicholls, Rob Cockings, Jamie Purves, Paul Hughs, Alan Davis and Annie Butcher.
