Cornwall College Camborne Undergoes Major Redevelopment in Phase Two of Campus Transformation

Cornwall College Camborne, a key institution within The Cornwall College Group (TCCG), has embarked on the second phase of its ambitious multi-million-pound redevelopment project, signalling a new era of innovation and sustainability for the campus.

The current phase of the project is marked by significant construction work, including the digging of trenches for the installation of advanced plumbing and pipework systems. This upgrade is designed to meet the evolving needs of the college’s students and staff, laying the foundation for a state-of-the-art educational environment.

A notable addition to the campus will be a new, modern energy centre. Planned as a stand-alone facility, the centre will provide a resilient and easily maintainable hub for the campus’s energy needs, designed to withstand the elements while blending seamlessly into the campus landscape.

John Evans, Principal and CEO of TCCG, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, highlighting its role in enhancing the student experience. “As the highest performing FE College in Cornwall, our goal is to further improve the quality of life on campus. The introduction of more greenspace, picnic benches, and communal areas will create a more inviting atmosphere for our learners, promoting relaxation and social interaction,” Evans stated.

The redevelopment plan also includes the removal of older structures such as the Sharman building and the Tamar annex. This decision aligns with the college’s commitment to sustainability, as it will not only free up space for landscaping but also attract wildlife to the campus, enhancing biodiversity.

Another significant aspect of the redevelopment is the refurbishment of the iconic Tamar Tower. This project aims to preserve the tower’s historical significance while modernising it to ensure it continues to stand as a symbol of the college’s enduring legacy.
