Boardmasters OPEN 2024 Set to Ignite Fistral Beach with International Surfing Talent
Boardmasters has confirmed the return of the Boardmasters OPEN, scheduled to take place at Fistral Beach from 7th to 11th August 2024. This marks the ninth consecutive year that the World Surf League (WSL) will grace the shores of Newquay, bringing with it the electric atmosphere of competitive surfing.
The event promises to showcase the pinnacle of both UK and international surfing talent as they compete in what is recognised as the country’s largest surf competition. Professional surfers are set to participate in both shortboard (QS 1,000) and longboard (LQS 1,000) competitions, offering a diverse display of skills and styles that cater to all surfing enthusiasts.
Adding to the excitement, the next generation of surfers, affectionately known as “groms,” will have their chance to shine in the Boardmasters Junior Open competition. This segment of the event underscores the festival’s commitment to nurturing young talent and providing a platform for emerging stars to make their mark on the world stage.
Boardmasters has also teased the opening of athlete entries in the coming weeks, inviting competitors to throw their hats into the ring for a chance to compete on one of surfing’s most revered battlegrounds.
In addition to the high-stakes competitions, the 2024 edition of the Boardmasters OPEN will see the return of its fan-favourite elements, now promised to be even bigger and better. The fan zone, a staple of the event, will feature its own beach bar, a trade village, an athlete area, and more, ensuring an immersive experience for attendees.
Adding a local touch to the event’s vibrant atmosphere, Newquay-local artist Clara Jonas has been commissioned to design the official Boardmasters Open poster (see below). The event organiserss have expressed their admiration for Jonas’s work and are excited to share it with the “Boardies” community.
The Boardmasters OPEN 2024 is proudly supported by the World Surf League, alongside Rubicon RAW, Carve Girl, and Surf Girl Mag, highlighting the collaborative spirit that underpins this iconic event. As preparations continue, the surfing community and fans alike are eagerly anticipating what promises to be an unforgettable celebration of surf culture at Fistral Beach.
