Bodmin Keep Offers a Journey Through Art and History This February Half-Term
Bodmin Keep: Cornwall’s Army Museum is set to captivate visitors this February half-term with a variety of activities designed to engage all ages in art, history, and hands-on learning. From living history displays to arts and crafts workshops and even a weapons handling session, the museum offers a unique opportunity to dive into 300 years of military history.
The half-term week kicks off on Saturday, 10 February, with living history displays that promise to transport visitors back in time. The West Country Tommies, a World War I re-enactment group, and The D-Day Dodgers, focusing on the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry and the British campaign in Italy during World War II, will bring history to life with their detailed and informative displays.
In a generous move, Bodmin Keep will open its doors for free on Monday, 12 February. This open day allows families and history enthusiasts an excellent chance to explore the museum’s extensive collections and exhibits without the barrier of an entry fee.
Artistic visitors will find delight in the arts and crafts sessions scheduled for Tuesday, 13 February, and Thursday, 15 February. Inspired by the miniature portraits in the museum’s first gallery, these sessions invite participants to create their own miniature cameos, portraits, and frames for just £2 per person. These activities not only provide a creative outlet but also a meaningful connection to the past, perfect for crafting a special Valentine’s Day gift.
Adding to the week’s events, the museum will host ‘Weapons handling through the ages’ workshops. For a small fee of £3 per person, attendees can get hands-on experience with historic weapons, from medieval longbows to modern-day pistols, offering a tangible link to the past and an insight into the evolution of military equipment.
Throughout the week, families can also engage with the museum’s collections through the free ‘Explore & Draw’ museum trail, a fun and educational way to discover the treasures within Bodmin Keep.
Bodmin Keep is open from Monday to Saturday, 10am-5pm, during the February half-term, with tickets available for purchase online. While entry to the museum is not included with activity sessions, ticket prices are set at £9 for adults and £5 for children, with family tickets available and all tickets granting an annual pass for unlimited museum access for 12 months.
This half-term, Bodmin Keep: Cornwall’s Army Museum invites everyone to immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of military history and the arts, offering something for every visitor to enjoy. Visit the Bodmin Keep website for more information.
