Persimmon Homes Donates £1,500 to Bodmin Youth Football Club
Support From One of Cornwall’s Largest Builders
Persimmon Homes has donated £1,500 to Bodmin Youth FC, a volunteer-led club supporting around 300 young footballers in the town.
The donation was presented during a training session this week at the club’s home ground, with Leader of Cornwall Council and former coach, Cllr Leigh Frost, in attendance. The funds will help cover essential pitch maintenance, new equipment, and ongoing running costs, as the club’s facilities undergo long-overdue redevelopment.
Backing a Club at the Heart of the Community
Bodmin Youth FC, previously known as Mount Boys before its rebrand in 2006, runs 17 teams for children aged 8 to 18 across both mixed and girls’ squads. The club has already hosted its own tournament, entered the Bodmin Town Carnival, organised a Christmas party and taken on sponsored challenges to raise money.
Phil Harris, Chairman of Bodmin Youth FC, said:
“With costs for grassroots clubs like ours increasing year on year, it becomes more and more important for us to raise funds from diverse pots on money.
So, we were thrilled to hear that Persimmon had chosen us as one of its Community Champions and this donation will be a big help for us in maintaining the club for our players.”
Part of a Wider Commitment to Cornwall
The donation comes through Persimmon’s Community Champions scheme, which distributes £700,000 to good causes across Britain every year. Locally, previous recipients include Cornwall Air Ambulance, 3rd Bodmin Scouts, Home Start Kernow and Bodmin Town Band.
Jane Cartwright, Persimmon Homes Cornwall & West Devon Sales Director, said:
“Persimmon’s Community Champions scheme is all about supporting great initiatives in the areas in which they build, not only for the good of existing residents but those who will be living on our developments.
We have a proud record of backing local sports clubs, especially youth focussed ones, so we felt lending a helping hand to Bodmin Youth FC was an obvious choice, especially with the Euros tournament inspiring a new generation of young girls to take up the sport.”
Persimmon currently has four active developments in Cornwall: Eve Parc in Falmouth, Trehenlis Gardens in Helston, Trevethan Meadows in Liskeard and Trevithick Manor Park in Newquay. A planning application for more than 500 new homes in Bodmin is also under consideration.
A Club That’s Close to Home
Cllr Leigh Frost, who now serves as Leader of Cornwall Council and represents Bodmin St Petroc, said:
“Bodmin Youth FC has long been a cornerstone of our town’s sporting life, so it’s heartening to see businesses like Persimmon Homes investing in local initiatives that nurture young talent.
As a former coach at the club myself, I really believe supporting young people through sport is so essential to their development and wellbeing and welcome this donation.”
