The Amazing Adventures of Archie: A New Cornish Set Children’s Book

A new children’s historical fiction book set in Cornwall is due for release later this month, with a story that blends family holidays, adventure and a mystery rooted in the 1950s.

A Cornish Holiday With a Twist

The Amazing Adventures of Archie is set during the 1950s and follows siblings George and Beatrice as they holiday in Cornwall with their parents and their dog, Archie. The family stay in Trelorna, a fishing village that offers a sharp contrast to their home life in Crystal Palace, London.

What begins as a traditional seaside break with sea swimming, cricket and stargazing soon changes course. After Beatrice takes drastic action one night to recover her property, the children find themselves caught up in a mystery involving pirates, communists and criminals. Alongside the unfolding events, the family still manages to enjoy plenty of good food.

Archie plays a central role, with his nose ultimately helping to resolve the mystery. His reward is a red spotted neckerchief.

From Bedtime Stories to Publication

The book is written by V. P. Goody, who began writing stories to create something personal for her daughter Charlotte to read at bedtime. Although Charlotte is now a teenager, V. P. has continued writing stories for children.

She lives in Dorking with her daughter, husband and cat. Her interests include writing, reading, sewing, gardening and travel. As a child, she had a Jack Russell called Beano, described as clever and inquisitive, which influenced the character of Archie.

The Amazing Adventures of Archie is due to be published by Troubador Publishing on 28th January 2026.

The book will be available from Amazon, Waterstones and other book retailers. It is already listed on Amazon for pre-order.

The story adds another Cornwall set title to the growing list of children’s books drawing on the county’s landscapes and atmosphere for inspiration.
