Dog’s Lucky Escape After Cliffside Dash Near Camelot Castle Hotel
A dog had a fortunate escape after bolting over a cliff near Camelot Castle Hotel on Wednesday morning, prompting an emergency response from Boscastle Coastguard Team.
Coastguard Called to Cliff Incident
The incident, which marked Boscastle Coastguard Team’s first call-out of 2025, happened on the south side of Camelot Castle Hotel. The team was paged after reports that a dog had gone over the cliff.
Polzeath Coastguard was also called to assist with cliff recovery if required. However, as the teams were en route, members of the public updated Falmouth operations room that the dog had managed to self-recover, and the teams were stood down.
A Close Call
The dog had bolted from the back of a car while its owners were packing up to leave a nearby holiday let. Instead of heading home, it made a dash towards the cliff. Fortunately, the cliff was a steep decline rather than the sheer drop initially feared, allowing the dog to make a lucky escape.
The incident serves as a reminder for pet owners to keep a close eye on their dogs when near the coastline.
