Police Granted Extra Time to Question Murder Suspect After Bude Woman’s Death

Investigation continues after 93-year-old woman’s death

Detectives investigating the death of a woman in Bude have been granted more time to question a man arrested on suspicion of murder.

As previously reported, emergency services were called to a property in Cherrill Gardens at around 1pm on Sunday 29th June after a report of concern for welfare. A 93-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed.

Further detention granted

A 65-year-old man from the Bude area was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody. Truro Magistrates’ Court has now granted a warrant of further detention, allowing officers to hold the man for an additional 36 hours while enquiries continue.

A police cordon remains in place at the scene.

Investigation ongoing

Detective Inspector Rob Smith, from the Major Crime Investigation Team, said:

“It is thought the deceased and suspect are known to each other and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.

“There will continue to be a heightened police presence in the area as our enquiries continue.

“If anyone has any information that could aid the investigation, we ask that they contact us by speaking to one of our officers, via our website or by calling 101.”
