Bluefruit Software Celebrates 25 Years in Redruth with MP Visit and Record Revenues

Bluefruit Software has marked 25 years in business with record-breaking revenues, staff celebrations and a visit from local MP Perran Moon. The Redruth-based company says the milestone underlines its success while highlighting opportunities for people looking to build careers in Cornwall’s growing technology sector.

From spare bedroom to thriving business

Founded in 2000 by Paul Massey in a spare bedroom in St Agnes, Bluefruit has grown steadily over the past two and a half decades. The company employs more than 60 software engineers, testers and quality specialists, providing embedded-software solutions to clients in medical technology, aerospace, manufacturing and other regulated sectors.

Its people-first ethos has been central to its growth, doubling its headcount since 2017 and earning recognition such as ‘Best Place to Work’ and ‘Growth Business of the Year’. Last year, the firm was also shortlisted for Tech Southwest’s ‘Commitment to Talent Award’.

Record revenues and expanding team

This year has been described as a landmark, with Bluefruit recording its highest-ever monthly turnover and expanding staff numbers by 10% in the last 12 months. The achievement highlights the ongoing demand for its expertise in highly regulated industries.

To celebrate, colleagues gathered at the Redruth office to enjoy food, drinks, cake, an office quiz, games, and a round of VR golf.

Recognition from Cornwall’s leaders

Perran Moon, MP for Camborne, Redruth, and Hayle, visited Bluefruit last month to mark the occasion. He praised the company’s achievements, saying:

“Bluefruit Software, based in Redruth, is a shining example of the ambition and expertise driving Cornwall’s technology sector. Their work shows how our region can deliver world-class innovation while creating valuable opportunities for local people. Reaching 25 years in business is a remarkable achievement and a testament to the talent and commitment of their team.”

Employee ownership and future plans

A key milestone in Bluefruit’s journey came in October 2019, when a 51% stake in the business was sold to employees, creating an Employee Ownership Trust. Four colleagues now serve as elected trustees, giving staff a formal voice in the running of the company.

Paul Massey said:

“Our future is brighter than ever because each and every member of Bluefruit is invested in our collective success.”

He added that the company’s philosophy remains unchanged after 25 years:

“From day one we believed that empowering people and maintaining a healthy work–life balance would lead to successful projects and satisfied clients. That philosophy has carried us through 25 years of growth, and with our employee-owned structure we’re confident it will carry us through the next 25.”

Rooted in Cornwall

Bluefruit remains committed to Cornwall, focusing on hiring local talent and working with schools, colleges and organisations such as Tech Cornwall to create opportunities for people to pursue careers in technology within the county.
