Gregg Whelan Appointed as New Chief Executive of Creative Kernow
Creative Kernow has announced that Gregg Whelan will become its new Chief Executive, taking up the role from 16th January 2026.
The news marks a significant moment for the organisation, which plays a key part in shaping and supporting the arts and creative industries in Cornwall. Gregg brings over 20 years of experience from the cultural, creative, and educational sectors both in the UK and abroad.
From Falmouth to Finland
Gregg joins Creative Kernow from Trinity College London, where he has worked since 2020 as Director of Performance, overseeing a global portfolio of performing and combined arts qualifications. Before that, he served as Professor of Performance at Falmouth University, leading the Creative Industries Futures research and innovation programme.
A Cornwall resident for more than 11 years, Gregg is no stranger to the region’s creative landscape. His background also includes a 14-year run as Co-Artistic Director of ANTI – Contemporary Art Festival in Finland. There, he expanded the festival’s reach, launched the ANTI International Prize for Live Art, and worked across sectors to help drive cultural and economic development in rural areas.
He has also led major cultural projects in Europe and America and co-created The Boat Project for the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad, an acclaimed public artwork that has had lasting social and economic impact.
A Unique Perspective
Gregg described his appointment as an exciting opportunity to help Cornwall’s creative economy thrive.
“Creative Kernow has played a vital and much-celebrated role in shaping and supporting the arts and creative industries in our region,” said Gregg Whelan. “I am absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity to work with the organisation, its funders, partners and communities as we unlock new opportunities, challenge convention, and help Cornwall’s creative economy thrive.”
His appointment has been welcomed across the sector.
