James Angliss Wins Cornwall’s Apprentice of the Year 2024 at Truro and Penwith College’s Grand Ceremony
In a significant achievement that underscores the value of apprenticeships, James Angliss was honoured as Cornwall’s Apprentice of the Year 2024 during the Cornwall Apprenticeship Awards hosted by Truro and Penwith College. The ceremony, held in partnership with Hertzian, marked its eighth annual celebration and took place at the Eden Project, a venue chosen for the first time due to the event’s substantial growth. The awards night on Friday saw an unprecedented audience of over 200 attendees gathered to celebrate the accomplishments of apprentices across Cornwall, highlighting the event’s status as the biggest of its kind to date.
The Cornwall Apprenticeship Awards have become a hallmark event for recognising excellence and dedication within the apprenticeship community. This year, the awards attracted 48 nominees, shortlisted across 18 diverse categories, demonstrating the wide array of skills and sectors represented by apprentices in the region. For the first time in 2024, the awards expanded to include apprenticeship mentors, acknowledging those who provide exceptional support to apprentices, ensuring they receive the best possible start to their careers.
The ceremony was presented by Holly Day and Neil Caddy from Pirate FM, who welcomed sponsors and special guests to the stage. Among the notable attendees was Scott Mann MP, who took part in presenting the awards, adding a layer of prestige to the evening’s celebrations.
James Angliss, reflecting on his win, highlighted the significant impact apprenticeships can have, stating, “Apprenticeships are a great pathway, I’ve benefited a great deal out of it and you could too.” His achievement not only celebrates his personal success but also serves as an inspiration to current and prospective apprentices, emphasising the opportunities and growth that apprenticeships can offer.
