Kensa and Sureserve Partner to Expand Low-Carbon Heating in Social Housing
A new partnership between Cornwall-based heat pump manufacturer Kensa and national social housing services provider Sureserve has been announced, aiming to scale up the use of low-carbon heating in homes across the UK.
Tackling Fuel Poverty and Carbon Emissions
The collaboration is focused on accelerating the rollout of Networked Ground Source Heat Pumps (GSHPs) in social housing, helping to cut carbon emissions and reduce energy bills for thousands of residents.
The companies say their joint mission is to reduce fuel poverty, lower carbon output and improve energy efficiency at scale in homes across the country, particularly in flats and housing clusters where the impact is greatest.
End-to-End Heating Solution
By combining their strengths, Kensa and Sureserve plan to offer a complete solution—from feasibility and funding support to installation and long-term maintenance.
Emma Nicklin, Commercial Director at Sureserve, said:
“Kensa has a strong reputation and unparalleled expertise in the ground source heat pump sector, and this partnership will be a fantastic collaboration for Sureserve as we continue to drive forward our mission to be the trusted partner of choice to the social housing and related public sector in delivering essential and affordable heating, energy savings, and compliance solutions, playing a key and progressive role in decarbonisation.
“In 2024, our Sureserve engineers installed more than 1,700 heat pumps across the UK reinforcing our position as a national leader in decarbonisation and retrofit. This partnership will not only enhance those capabilities but allow us to deliver sustainable heating solutions further and faster, on a scale.
“Together with Kensa, we’ll help create social housing which is both environmentally friendly and financially sustainable. We are proud of this partnership, which supports our aim to tackle climate change and champion for residents nationwide.”
Leading the Way in Low Carbon Heating
Kensa, based in Cornwall, has manufactured nearly 20,000 ground source heat pumps to date, including its award-winning Shoebox model, which made it possible to use GSHPs in flats. The company is already a leading supplier of Networked GSHPs to the social housing sector.
Tamsin Lishman, CEO at Kensa, said:
“Our mission is clear: take people out of fuel poverty, decarbonise heating, and give social housing providers the confidence to act. This partnership is about more than delivery, it’s about driving bold, credible change at scale. By combining our expertise, we’re not just making low carbon heating possible—we’re making it practical, affordable and a scalable reality for the homes that need it most.”
Sureserve installs over 6,000 renewable energy systems every year and maintains more than 1.2 million heating systems across the UK, making them a key player in the move towards greener housing.
Supporting Councils and Housing Associations
The partnership builds on work already underway with housing associations and local councils, including L&Q Group, Clarion, Southern Housing Group, Aberdeenshire Council, Haringey Council, Kensington and Chelsea, and Thurrock Council.
The aim now is to deliver even more projects, more efficiently, to more communities.
