Sapphire Holidays Opens £2.5m Eco Offices in Hayle
A new home for Sapphire Holidays’ growing team
Sapphire Holidays has officially opened its new offices at Onyx House on Hayle Business Park following a £2.5 million investment. The Cornwall-based group of self-catering holiday letting agencies has transformed a former industrial building into a modern, sustainable workspace for three of its award-winning brands and around 60 of its 200-plus staff.
Classic Cottages now occupies the ground floor of Onyx House, while Boutique Retreats and Unique Hideaways are based on the mezzanine level. Nearby Sapphire House, built in 2020, continues to house Aspects Holidays and the group’s support departments, including HR, IT and accounts.
Sustainability at the heart of Onyx House
Designed with sustainability in mind, Onyx House features a rooftop solar array paired with a bank of batteries, enabling the building to generate more electricity than it consumes. The site also uses renewable ground source heating powered by six 150-metre-deep boreholes, a rainwater harvesting system, and eight electric vehicle charging points.
Its car park has been landscaped as a wildflower meadow to help boost biodiversity across the Hayle Business Park site.
Growth and recognition for Sapphire Holidays
The opening was marked by owner and chairman Simon Tregonning, who officially unveiled the building before more than 100 invited guests. He said:
“As a long-established and family-owned group of businesses, this investment reflects our ongoing commitment to sustainable growth. By bringing everyone together on neighbouring sites we’ve created a modern base for our expanding teams, and we’re very proud to have upcycled an old industrial building into an energy-efficient workspace that reflects our values and ambitions.”
The completion of Onyx House comes after a year of strong growth for Sapphire Holidays, which now employs more than 205 people across the UK. The group expanded its footprint in 2025 with acquisitions in Dorset, North Devon and the Isle of Man, following earlier expansions into Norfolk and the Yorkshire Dales.
Award-winning brands
Classic Cottages has been recognised as a Recommended Provider by Which? for the fifth consecutive year, while Boutique Retreats earned the title of Best Cottage Operator in the Telegraph Travel Awards 2025, outperforming national competitors.
Cornish design and build
Onyx House was designed by Truro-based KAST Architects, who were also responsible for the neighbouring Sapphire House. The build was managed by Ian Cavley of Newquay-based IC Building Consultancy, who also oversaw the Sapphire House project.
