Camborne Library on the Move: Temporary Location Announced
Temporary Move Begins This Autumn
Camborne Library is set for a temporary relocation as part of the ongoing Basset Community Hub project. Starting this autumn, the library and Camborne Town Council’s Engagement Team will move to allow for the clearance of the current site, with the project expected to be completed in 2026. After exploring various options around town, the library will be moving back to the Passmore Edwards Building, located at the Cross in central Camborne. Although the space will be smaller, the library aims to continue providing excellent service by increasing outreach efforts during this period.
Historical Significance of Passmore Edwards Building
The Passmore Edwards Building, originally built in 1895 by John Passmore Edwards, was once intended to be the permanent home for Camborne Library. However, as the services offered by a modern library have grown, the building can no longer accommodate the current demands for space. While the Basset Centre previously provided more room for activities and events, the Basset Community Hub project aims to create a more suitable space for the library’s future needs.

What to Expect in 2026
Once the Basset Community Hub is completed in 2026, the library will move back to a newly refurbished and modernised space. The new location will be a purpose-built heritage site designed to cater to the needs of the community, offering significantly more space for activities, events, and services. Features of the new hub will include a café, Camborne’s first ‘changing space toilet’, outdoor event spaces, heritage displays, and a bright, modern environment.
During the construction phase, Camborne Town Council’s central service teams will temporarily move to a small office in the town centre to make space for the library’s operations in the Passmore Edwards Building.
