Camborne Shoplifter Sentenced to 52 Weeks in Prison
A prolific shoplifter who stole more than £1,000 worth of goods from shops in Camborne will spend the new year behind bars.
Court appearance and sentence
Tony Sailsbury, 44, of no fixed abode, appeared at Bodmin Magistrates’ Court on Monday 5th January. He pleaded guilty to 11 counts of shoplifting, burglary of a commercial premises, two breaches of his interim Criminal Behaviour Order and an assault of a police officer.
Sailsbury was sentenced to 52 weeks in prison.
Repeated offences across Camborne
The court heard that Sailsbury targeted several retailers, including Tesco, Co-op and Aldi, on 11 occasions between June and October 2025.
He admitted entering the stores to stash goods such as spirits, meat and razors before leaving without attempting to pay.
In December, he also gained entry to a local business, causing more than £300 worth of damage and stealing £260 worth of goods.
Police response
Inspector Lou Brown, who leads the neighbourhood team in Camborne, said:
“It’s clear that from his repeated actions and harmful behaviour that Sailsbury had no regard for the harm he was causing in the town, in particular the businesses and their employees.
“I don’t underestimate the significant impact this had on the local community, so I welcome this sentence from the courts.
“Our officers remain committed to making Camborne a safe place for everyone. Work will continue to keep our communities safe and prosecute prolific offenders.”
Inspector Brown also thanked retailers for their support and encouraged continued reporting of crime:
“Thank you to all the retailers for their support in this investigation.
“I would like to encourage anyone who witnesses or experiences crime to please continue reporting to us. Your information is key to helping us achieve outcomes like this one. Thank you.”
Investigation support
Special recognition was given to the Camborne neighbourhood team, with assistance from the Neighbourhood Support Team, for their work in the investigation, arrest and court outcome.
