Camborne Sixth Form Holds Induction Day for New Year 12 Students
Action-packed start for Year 12s
New Year 12 students at Camborne Sixth Form have kicked off their studies with a high-energy induction day filled with activities designed to bring them together. Combat archery, bubble football, inflatable assault courses and teamwork challenges all featured, giving the group an opportunity to bond quickly and build confidence.
The day was designed to help students feel part of the community from the outset, encouraging collaboration and communication skills while also supporting personal growth.
A Sixth Form with a distinct offer
Camborne Sixth Form is part of Camborne Science and International Academy (CSIA), within Athena Learning Trust, but operates with its own identity. Alongside specialist pathways such as Nexus and the Cornwall School of Maths and Science, it provides high-quality academic education in a familiar, supportive setting.
Students benefit from their own dedicated building with study spaces, a coffee shop and a common room. Around a quarter of Sixth Formers join from outside CSIA, with the provision welcoming young people from across Cornwall.
Support for the future
The academy focuses on tailored support for each student, helping them to navigate university applications, apprenticeships and career choices. Expert advice, enrichment opportunities and personalised guidance form a key part of the Sixth Form experience.
This summer, 70% of CSIA students achieved A*–B grades at A Level, with 39% securing A or A*. At the Cornwall School of Maths and Science, 70% achieved A*–A, far above the national averages of 28% for A*–A and 55% for A*–B.
The Sixth Form has also been rated Outstanding by Ofsted, currently the only Outstanding Sixth Form in Cornwall.
Open evening in November
An open evening will take place on 6th November at 5.30pm, giving prospective students and families the chance to see the facilities and hear more about the opportunities available.
Emma Haase, Principal of Camborne Science and International Academy, said:
“We were delighted to welcome our new Year 12 students to Camborne Sixth Form and to see them embracing their induction activities with such enthusiasm. These experiences are a fantastic way for our young people to build friendships, develop teamwork skills, and feel at home in our community from the very beginning. At our open evening on the 6th November, we look forward to showing even more students and families what makes Camborne Sixth Form such a special place to learn and grow.”
