Bringing Cornish Spirit to Canadian Classrooms

Year 10 and 11 students from Camborne Science & International Academy (CSIA), part of Athena Learning Trust, have travelled to Winnipeg, Canada, for an unforgettable educational adventure.

The week began with students settling into life at Fort Richmond Collegiate and Shaftesbury College, where they joined local lessons alongside their homestay hosts. They sampled authentic Canadian school lunches and spent the evenings shopping and dining out with friends, immersing themselves in Canadian culture.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

On Tuesday, the students took part in the Global Youth Challenge Student Summit. The event featured specialist-led workshops focused on sustainable agriculture, offering meaningful, real-world links to their Geography, Biology and Chemistry studies.

These sessions encouraged critical thinking around global sustainability issues, connecting classroom learning to international environmental challenges.

Proud Moments for Camborne

Staff accompanying the group praised the students for their enthusiasm, engagement and exemplary conduct throughout the trip. The visit was described as an enriching experience that combined cultural exchange, academic exploration and the chance to develop global perspectives.

Principal Emma Haase said:

“We are incredibly proud of our students for the enthusiasm, curiosity, and maturity they’ve shown throughout this international experience. Opportunities like this allow our young people to see the world beyond the classroom, to learn, connect, and think globally. The Global Youth Challenge in Winnipeg has been an inspiring reminder of how education can empower students to make a difference in the wider world.”
