Camborne’s New Community Hub Named – Did Your Favourite Win?

Camborne’s long-awaited community space has officially been named following a public vote, with Awenva, Place of Inspiration, securing the top spot by just six votes.

A New Era for the Basset Centre and White House

The transformation of the Basset Centre, formerly The Basset School, and the White House on Basset Road is well underway after receiving Conditional Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent in November 2024. The project, funded by Camborne Town Deal, will see the two historic buildings connected by a stunning glass atrium to create a modern, multi-use community space.

In preparation for this new chapter, Camborne Town Council ran a poll last week, allowing the public to vote on a shortlist of names.

Awenva – A Place of Inspiration

With a narrow victory of just six votes, the chosen name Awenva reflects the heart of Camborne’s community. According to Camborne Town Council, it represents “a place where we come together, share experiences, and create lasting memories.”

The Basset buildings have played a vital role in the town for generations, and this latest development marks a new era for the space, ensuring it continues to serve and support the community.
