Creative Workshop in Camborne Helps Shape New Street Art
“You don’t get a chance to take part in things like this when you’re an adult – it’s great to be involved.”
That was how one participant summed up a creative workshop held at the Tyacks Hotel in Camborne, where residents are helping shape new designs for street art in the town centre.
Community workshops bring ideas to life
Led by local artist Cosmic and organised by Camborne’s Business Improvement District (BID) team, the public session formed part of a series of interactive events focused on creating artwork for New Connexion Street.
It was the second time Charlotte, one of the younger people attending, had joined the workshops. She said:
“Being able to bring all my ideas to life with Cosmic is amazing. I enjoy coming into Camborne town centre and can’t wait to see more street art. It really makes a difference.”
Backed by Camborne Renew
The creative sessions are being supported by Camborne Renew, one of ten Camborne Town Deal projects. The wider work aims to regenerate the heart of the town with improvements that include new seating and greenery, pedestrian crossings, better lighting and CCTV.
Anna Pascoe, BID Camborne manager, said:
“Cosmic’s design sessions are proving really popular and we’re getting some excellent suggestions on how to brighten up New Connexion Street with street art that feels right for our town.
“It’s Camborne’s Banksy moment – but with lots of people contributing.”
Street art expected by Christmas
The new artwork is set to be installed before Christmas.
Camborne Town Deal Board, in partnership with Cornwall Council, secured a £23.7 million Town Deal to support projects across the area. Cornwall Council, as the lead authority for Cornwall Town Deals, supports the Camborne Town Deal Board in its governance role and administrates the fund.
