Final Designs Completed for Camborne Renew Transport Scheme
Construction to Start in October
The final designs for the Camborne Renew transport scheme are now complete, with work currently expected to start in early October.
Part of the wider Camborne Town Deal Transport Project, the scheme aims to make Camborne town centre more attractive, improve access for pedestrians and cyclists, and encourage people to spend more time in the town.
What’s Included in the Scheme?
The updated design comes after residents and businesses raised concerns over some of the original proposals. In response, several key changes were made to enhance the environmental feel of the town centre. These include:
-
New seating and greenery
-
Better pedestrian crossings throughout Trelowarren Street
-
A new zebra crossing at Fore Street
-
Longer free parking at the top of Trelowarren Street (from 30 minutes to an hour)
-
Repairs to paving in Commercial Square
-
Improved lighting and CCTV
-
Secure cycle parking
All traffic flow proposals were removed from the scheme following a consultation held in spring 2023.
While most of the work will focus on Trelowarren Street and Commercial Square, there are plans to improve nearby streets to support the overall project.
Drop-in Session for the Community
A community drop-in session is being held at Create CIC in the Donald Thomas Centre, Chapel Street, Camborne, on Wednesday 3rd September between 10am and 6.30pm.
This will give residents and businesses a chance to view the final designs and find out more about traffic management during the construction period.
Information will also be published on the Let’s Talk Cornwall website and the Camborne Town Deal website.
Camborne LifeCycle Scheme Update
The Camborne Renew scheme forms part of a bigger picture alongside Camborne LifeCycle. This part of the transport project will deliver 3.7km of improved walking and cycling routes connecting key locations around the town.
So far:
-
The north section of the former Roskear tramway, between North Roskear Road and Boilerworks Road, is now complete. It was previously overgrown and unusable.
-
The Boilerworks Road end will be included in future works at the Treverno Road / Boilerworks Road junction, starting in September.
-
Good progress is being made on the south section of the tramway, running past the cricket club to Roskear Road. Wall repairs are finished and work on the new path, lighting and drainage is underway. The full route is due to open in September.
-
The new signalised crossing at Roskear, near Tesco, is already up and running and seeing regular use.
-
Work started in June at the Albert Street / North Parade / Park Road / Roskear Road junction, with completion planned for the end of August. Shorter crossing distances are already visible as work progresses.
The full programme remains on schedule, with the second half of the works due to be completed by early 2026.
Cornwall Council is the lead authority for the Cornwall Town Deals and supports the Camborne Town Deal Board in overseeing the funding and delivery.
