Is This Set To Be Camborne’s Most Magical Night of the Year?

Camborne is preparing for a brand new festive celebration as the town gets ready to debut Afina on Thursday 27th November, running from 3 pm to 7 pm. The event brings together the annual Children’s Lantern Parade and a new festive market.

Festive Stalls From 3 pm

Chapel Street will host around a dozen stalls offering Christmas gifts along with festive food and drink. They will be open from 3 pm to 7 pm for anyone wanting to start their seasonal shopping early.

Lantern Parade to Light Up the Town

At 5 pm, children will gather in the Camborne Tesco car park, where parking bays have been reserved specially for the parade. The procession sets off at 5.30 pm on a new route that covers the full length of Trelowarren Street and Commercial Street before finishing on Basset Street.

Local schools and colleges have created Cornish themed lanterns for the occasion, including sailing boats, seagulls, tin mines and jellyfish. The parade will be led by Santa in his sleigh.

Alicia Jouvenaar, Events Manager at Camborne Town Council, said: “Afina will be the ideal way to brighten up a long winter evening. We work hard all year to ensure this event is the best it can possibly be, and so we’re very excited to introduce Afina in 2025. We really hope the community will enjoy this fantastic, festive, free event!”

What Afina Means

Afina means “to make beautiful” in Cornish. Camborne Town Council will share updates in the run up to the event on their social media pages and on their website.

The council has thanked all schools, colleges, students and children for creating the lanterns with support from local artists, along with Camborne Tesco for helping make the parade possible.
