Major Changes Coming to Camborne: Have Your Say on Town Centre Plans

Published On: 30 January 2025Last Updated: 30 January 2025By

The latest designs for the Camborne Renew Town Deal transport scheme have been published today, 30th January, marking the start of a three-week consultation period. Residents and businesses now have the chance to review the proposals and provide feedback before construction begins later this year.

What’s Changing?

The scheme is designed to revamp Camborne town centre, making it more attractive and accessible while supporting the local economy. The project focuses on enhancing Trelowarren Street and Commercial Square, with additional improvements planned for adjoining streets.

Key features of the latest designs include:

  • More seating and greenery to improve the environment
  • Better pedestrian crossings for safer access
  • One-hour free parking at the top of Trelowarren Street
  • Secure cycle parking to encourage sustainable travel

These plans have been shaped by feedback from residents and businesses during previous consultations, ensuring they meet community needs while minimising disruption during construction.

How to View the Plans

Details of the proposed changes will be available on the Camborne Town Deal Transport page on Let’s Talk Cornwall from 30th January:

The three-week statutory consultation will be led by Cormac in partnership with the Camborne Town Deal transport team. Locals are encouraged to take part and share their views before the final decisions are made.

Val Dalley, Chair of the Camborne Town Deal Board, said:

“The Camborne Renew project is going to make a big difference to our town centre and this consultation is an important opportunity for residents and businesses to have their say on the plans. The project has generated considerable interest and, like my fellow board members, I’m now looking forward to seeing the scheme implemented.”

Louis Gardner, Portfolio Holder for Economy at Cornwall Council, added:

“Making town centres visually appealing, accessible and places to linger are all key steps to enhancing their vitality. I urge people to keep sharing their vision and needs for Camborne town centre with us.”

What Happens Next?

Once the consultation closes, a report will be compiled to summarise the feedback and outline recommendations for the next steps. Members of the Camborne Town Deal Board will review this before giving the green light for construction, which is expected to begin in August.

Progress on Camborne LifeCycle

Meanwhile, work on the Camborne LifeCycle project is moving forward, delivering 3.7km of improved walking and cycling routes across eight locations in the town.

Construction began at Rosewarne Road in November and has since progressed through to Roskear Road, where a widened footpath, a dropped crossing with tactile paving, and a new streetlight are being installed to improve accessibility for pedestrians, wheelchair users, and prams.

Sections of Roskear Tramway and North Roskear Road are now under construction, with the first phase of work expected to be finished before summer 2025. The second phase will be completed by early 2026.
