Nightlife Businesses Join Camborne Crime App After Funding Boost
Businesses operating in Camborne’s evening and nighttime economy have now been added to the town’s crime reporting system following new funding support.
Funding expands BID:BIS system
BID Camborne has received £3,870 from the Devon & Cornwall Police Hotspot Problem Solving Fund to expand its app based business intelligence scheme, known locally as BID:BIS.
The system is powered by DISC technology and allows member businesses to report local crime and share information about potential offenders with others in the area.
BID Camborne launched the scheme in October 2024, and since then it has seen record levels of engagement from businesses. This has led to a number of convictions, according to the BID.
The latest funding means a new module has now been added, allowing businesses operating at nighttime to take part.
Focus on the evening and nighttime economy
Anna Pascoe, BID Camborne manager, said:
“We’re really pleased with the success of BID:BIS in local shops and extending that to the evening and nighttime economy is making a big difference.”
She also highlighted wider work taking place in the town, adding:
“Camborne is part of the Police & Crime Commissioner’s Street Focus initiative, and we had a productive meeting with Alison Hernandez and her team at the end of October. There is a lot going on in the town to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour and the DISC system plays an important part in that process.”
Police support for hotspot policing
Chief Inspector Dom Nicholls, Hotspot Policing Lead for Devon and Cornwall, said the approach is helping to tackle anti social behaviour.
He said:
“Hotspot policing tackles anti-social behaviour and is proving effective in both preventing crime and helping people feel safer.
“Systems like DISC encourage local communities to report offending through information sharing and I’m pleased we’ve been able to help BID Camborne extend that facility to the town’s nighttime economy.”
