Rain Fails to Dampen Spirits at ‘Cornwall’s Most Powerful’ Event in Camborne
Strongest Men and Women in Cornwall Compete in Gruelling Challenges
Tyacks Hotel in Camborne was the setting for a remarkable display of strength and endurance as it hosted the ‘Cornwall’s Most Powerful’ competition. The event, which attracted some of the strongest men and women from across the county, featured a series of five intense challenges, each designed to push the competitors to their limits.
A Day of Spectacular Feats
The day-long competition included lifting metal cylinder logs over heads within a 60-second time frame, carrying heavy objects while running, dragging weighted sleds, transporting concrete-filled kegs, and lifting progressively heavier stones onto a custom-built platform. Each challenge was sponsored by local businesses, adding to the community spirit of the event.
Despite the wet weather, spectators turned out in force, cheering on the athletes through every gruelling task. Organised by local strongman Martin Foster, this was the first event of its kind in Cornwall since 2022 and raised over £500 for the Huntington’s Disease Association and Marie Curie.
Winners and Highlights
Hannah Beard emerged as the winner of the women’s title, while Jake Speller took home the Men’s Intermediate title, and Conner Bagley claimed victory in the Men’s Novice category. The fifth and final event, which saw athletes lifting heavy stones onto a platform, was particularly challenging, but the crowd’s energy spurred the competitors on to give their best performances.
Martin, who worked tirelessly to organise the event, expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed to its success, including referees David Williams and Kieron Evans, both respected strongmen in their own right.
Community Support and Looking Ahead
The event was not only a showcase of physical strength but also a testament to the strong community spirit in Camborne. Anna Pascoe, manager of BID Camborne, praised the event’s success, noting the significant turnout and the funds raised for charity. The Tyacks Hotel, which hosted the event, also provided an outdoor bar for attendees, further adding to the festive atmosphere.
Local businesses, including Evans & Son Electrical, FMW Construction, Zoar Tyres, SJ Andrews, Atlas Stone, Newman Scaffolding, The Muscle Machine Gym, Pasties & Pull-Ups, and Websters Bespoke Embroidery & Print, played a crucial role in making the event possible through their sponsorship.
Plans are already underway for the next strongman competition, set to take place in December. To stay updated, follow ‘Cornwall’s Most Powerful’ on Facebook and Instagram.
