Education Secretary Praises Camelford Community Primary School Results

Pupils and staff at Camelford Community Primary School are celebrating after receiving a letter of congratulations from the Secretary of State for Education.

The letter was sent by Bridget Phillipson, praising the school for the results achieved by disadvantaged pupils at Key Stage 2 at the end of the 2024/25 academic year. The outcomes place the school among the highest performers nationally.

Strong results for disadvantaged pupils

At Camelford Community Primary School, 80% of disadvantaged pupils achieved the expected standard in Reading, compared with 63% nationally. In Writing, 73% met the expected standard, compared with a national figure of 59%. In Maths, 80% reached the expected standard, compared with 61% of similar pupils across the country.

Headteacher response

Headteacher Anne Howard said the school focuses on every pupil and works hard to support disadvantaged learners.

She said:
“We prioritise the success of each and every pupil within our school and make sure that we are doing all we can to get it right for our disadvantaged learners. Our excellent staff team works diligently every day to ensure our children feel supported, valued, and ready to learn, and most importantly that they enjoy their time at Camelford.”

Recognition across the trust

Camelford Community Primary School is part of West Country Schools Trust. Six other primary and secondary schools within the Trust also received letters of praise from the Education Secretary.

In her letter to the school, Bridget said:
“This success reflects the dedication of your staff and the hard work of your pupils. It shows what can be achieved when ambition and commitment come together. Thank you for everything you do to give children the best possible opportunities to succeed.”
